I may have mentioned my vegetable garden before. It is something I am new at! I have planted tomatoes and beans before, but that is as far as I would go!
This time, L. and I have created a proper vegetable garden, with zucchini, cauliflower, strawberries, tomatoes, different herbs, peppers, ...
Es probable que ya me hayáis leído comentarios sobre mi mini huerto. Es algo que para mi es absolutamente nuevo, y de lo que desconozco casi todo! Sí que llevo tiempo plantando tomates y judías verdes, pero nunca me había atrevido a dar un paso más!
Sin embargo, esta vez L. y yo nos hemos montado un auténtico huerto en el jardín, con calabacines, coliflor, fresas, distintas hierbas, ...
One may think it is as easy as planting the seed, watering it and making sure it gets enough sun, but the truth is there is a whole science behind it!
Quizás penséis que es tan fácil como plantar la semilla, regarla y que le de el sol... Pues os equivocáis amigos! No sabéis la ciencia que hay detrás!
For instance, let´s focus on zucchini, I had no clue the male flowers are the ones we usually eat and that you should remove them to allow the plant to have enough strenght for the female flowers (the ones that have the baby zucchinis ;)) to grow!
Por ejemplo, los calabacines, resulta que tienen flores macho y hembras, y si no polinizan no salen calabacines....Total que las que se comen son las flores macho, y las hembras son de las que nace el calabacín. Y resulta que para que nazcan calabacines en condiciones, es importante quitar las flores macho para que no roben fuerza a la planta. Menuda historia verdad?
So, to help our young zucchini plants poduce female flowers, we cut all the male flowers yesterday and stuffed them with a delicious emmental and onion bechamel, then coated them with egg and flour, fried them and...ATE THEM ALL!
Nuestras plantas están plagadas de flores macho, así que para echarles un cable no nos ha quedado más remedio que cortarlas, rellenarlas de bechamel de emmental y cebolla, rebozarlas y ... COMÉRNOSLAS TODAS!

ResponderEliminarMi padre tiene un huerto, del cual sale prácticamente todo el suministro y mira que no tenía ni idea de lo de las flores macho y las hembras. Siempre he querido hacer alguna receta con flores de calabacín pero me daba pena pensar que esa flor se convertiría en un calabacín grande y jugoso... Ingénua de mi!!! ahora que lo sé estaré pendiente. Gracias por estas expicaciones, sirven de mucho. Un abrazo.
